Mediating the Effect of Corporate Social Responsibility on the Relationship Between Gender Diversity and Financial Performance of Listed Companies in Nigeria

This study examines the, mediating effect of corporate social responsibility on the
relationship between board gender diversity and financial performance of listed companies
in Nigeria. The study employs an ex-post facto research design. The population of the study
comprises the entire companies quoted on Nigerian Exchange Group from 2012-2021. The
study samples hundred and twelve (112) companies out of the larger population which
were drawn using judgmental sampling technique. The study sourced data from secondary
source. The technique of data analysis employed is mediation analysis (using sobel test).
The study finds that corporate social responsibility fully mediates the relationship between
board gender diversity and financial performance of listed companies in Nigeria.
Therefore, the study recommends that companies should diverse their board to improve
companies’ financial performance through corporate social responsibility activities.
